A Message From The President
Hello Everyone! My name is Carlos A. Mojica, President of the Atheist Humanist Society of CT and RI. If you have reached this site, it is a pretty good bet that you have an interest in religion and the concept of god. The Atheist Humanist Society (AHS) is a non-profit civic organization dedicated to serve as a support group for non-believers. It is a forum where issues of religion and its impact in our society are discussed, and a place where non-believers share their experiences in being atheists and humanists. We strongly support and defend the principles of free speech and the separation of church and state through activism, education, and community outreach programs. We are an advocacy group devoted to increasing the public’s awareness that no concept of deity is required to develop personal ethics, and that humanistic values are all that are required to develop a moral code of behavior that ensures justice, human progress, and happiness.

AHS sponsors open discussions on the moral basis of a secular society, and encourages ethical practices within our own membership and the community at large through programming events, demonstrations, classes, and outreach efforts. AHS creates and provides educational materials to the public regarding secular and scientific alternatives to supernatural interpretations of the human condition, and the acceptance and appreciation of citizens who are non-believers.

We aspire to energize our surrounding communities as a social setting for atheists and skeptics, conducive to positive social interaction, discourse and fellowship.

All this requires the dedication, energy, and enthusiasm of our membership; especially for an issue so poorly understood by the general public and so demonized (all pun intended) by the other side.

So, if you have made it this far, if you experience that feeling that there is no god, that all of you’ve been told about god, spirits, heaven and hell is human superstition and mythology, if you want to talk about this with other with similar feelings, please come to our meetings. Check this website often and our second web presence in Meetup. Join us and free you mind.

AHS Statement of Mission & Vision

Our statement of mission and vision is an important part of our group. It helps to define us and keeps us focused.

Mission: The mission of the Atheist Humanist Society of Connecticut and Rhode Island (AHS) is to support and defend the principles of free speech and the separation of church and state through activism, education, and community outreach programs. AHS is a civic organization and an advocacy group devoted to increasing public awareness that no concept of deity is required to develop personal ethics, and that humanistic values are all that are required to develop a moral code of behavior that ensures justice, human progress, and happiness.

Vision: AHS is a grassroots organization centered on the southern shores of New England that aspires to energize its surrounding communities and to provide a social setting for atheists and skeptics conducive to positive social interaction, discourse and fellowship. AHS sponsors open discussions on the moral basis of a secular society, and encourage ethical practices within our own membership and the community at large through programming events, demonstrations, classes, and outreach efforts. AHS creates and provides to the public educational materials regarding secular and scientific alternatives to supernatural interpretations of the human condition and the acceptance and appreciation of citizens who are non-theists.

  • Activism: AHS works actively in the local area through positive contributions to charitable organizations and through participation in community service projects. Also, through affiliation with various other atheist and humanist organizations, AHS participates in nationally sponsored events such as letter writing campaigns to state and federal officials and demonstrations in other parts of the country.

  • Education: Through the talent of its group members, AHS is continuously expanding its robust and dynamic educational curriculum. Presentations, lectures, and panel discussions are offered to the public and various publications can be made available for those who request them.

  • Outreach: Through advertisement, word-of-mouth, and other such avenues, AHS provides outreach services to atheists who feel isolated and disenfranchised so that they may find companionship in a group of like-minded individuals.
